Summer has set in and the temperatures have already started roaring. Here, in India, summer doesn't bring only sweat and heat but dust, irritation, skin allergies and much more. Late morning sun and afternoons are challenge for people who commute for work. Mostly in afternoons, people prefer staying indoors to beat the heat.
Another easy way to beat the heat would be to add a few clothes to your wardrobe! Summer demands natural, light fabrics. Wearing heavy clothing will only increase your suffering in the heat. So, avoid those dark tones and include the pastel and light colours.
The fabric that is most preferred in summers is linen & cotton because of the coolness it provides. Thanks to the way it is woven, and its fibre specifics. The fabric facilitates better airflow and it doesn’t stick to your skin.
Linen is highly absorbent and can absorb around 1/5th of its weight before it starts to feel damp or wet. It is also a great conductor of heat—allowing it to escape, which facilitates cooling.
Linen fabric has many attractive properties and all of them are most easily appreciated when wearing linen clothing. And we are not exaggerating when we say that linen tunics and dresses, linen shirts or blouses are really irreplaceable in summer, when travelling and/or in hot and humid climate.
The main benefit of wearing linen & cotton clothes in hot weather is the coolness they provide. Thanks to the weave and linen fiber specifics linen fabric allows more airflow and it’s structure means it stays away from your skin allowing better airflow over your body. Linen is a “stiff” fabric and is less likely to cling to the skin; when it billows away, it quickly dries out and becomes cool again. Summer clothes made of linen possesses high air permeability, which allows air to flow through the fabric easily and allows the body to breathe.
Another nice feeling one can have when wearing linen dress, cotton blouse or any other piece of cotton clothing is the body free of moisture. Cotton is highly absorbent and a good conductor of heat. Your cotton garment feels cool to the touch and the fabric will quickly remove perspiration from the skin. Cotton is capable of absorbing moisture and then and quickly yielding it again. Because of its molecular structure linen cloth can absorb as much as 1/5 of its weight before giving a feeling of being damp or wet. In other words – your cotton shirt will absorb lots of perspiration and it is unlikely it will ever feel clammy – as water evaporates off cotton as quickly as off the surface puddle. So, water is both absorbed and evaporated quickly. The result is your cotton dress acting like an excellent cooling system.
Next to coolness and high absorbency, cotton has one more very favorable property – good heat conductivity characteristics. Heat conductivity refers to the extent to which heat can be conveyed through the fabric. As cotton quickly allows the heat to escape, it further improves cooling. It is claimed, that heat conductivity of cotton is five times higher than wool and eighteen times higher than silk.
So, this summer prefer cotton & linen Clothing. It will keep you cool and relaxed!!!
